Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina 'earned more from shooting three-day soft drinks ad than from the whole film'

Slumdog Millionaire child star Rubina 'earned more from shooting three-day soft drinks ad than from the whole film'

One of the child stars of Slumdog Millionaire has earned more from a three-day shoot for a commercial than from the whole of the Oscar-winning movie, it has been claimed.

Rubina Ali, nine, who plays actress Freida Pinto’s character in the film as a little girl, shot the ad for soft drinks alongside Nicole Kidman in India.

The commercial was directed by legendary Hollywood helmer Ridley Scott.

The nine-year-old was plucked from Mumbai’s slums to act in Danny Boyle’s film but, despite its runaway box office success, she went back to the same life as before.

The film’s executives then set up a trust fund for her and the other child stars.

But Rubina’s father, Rafiq Ali, claims the cashflow had stopped.

He said: 'The Slumdog Millionaire people haven’t kept all their promises despite the media attention.

'We have no information about the supposed trust fund - and the £21 a month that they were giving for her studies has stopped coming.

He added: 'We are very proud of her and hope she continues to become a big star.

'Maybe then we will be able to live in a proper house.

'The money she’s receiving for doing this ad is more than the total she got for Slumdog.'
