Obama: Daughter Sasha Almost Died as an Infant
President Barack Obama says his daughter, Sasha, almost died as an infant.
Referring to the now 7-year-old as "our little precious pea," Obama said Sasha developed life-threatening meningitis when she was just three months old.
"The doctors did a terrific job," he said during his first-ever White House Internet town-hall meeting Thursday, "but frankly it was the nurses that were there with us when she had to get a spinal tap, and all sorts of things that were just bringing me to tears."
After her recovery, Obama's outlook on healthcare changed.
"I'm biased toward nurses," he said. "I just like nurses."
Obama has pledged to make insurance available for everyone.
