Chantelle: I wanted love not Defoe's deceit

Chantelle reveals what life's REALLY like as a WAG and why she's quit (for now)

DITSY Big Brother beauty Chantelle Houghton wept as she told what HELL it is to be a WAG-and how it drove her to dump England ace Jermain Defoe.

The made-for-TV reality star thought she'd found the man of her dreams in the bed-hopping footballer, who showered her with gifts worth thousands and even introduced her to his mum.

But divorcee Chantelle, 25, soon realised she was TRAPPED in a world where girls give up dignity and independence in exchange for a glamour lifestyle with unfaithful soccer players.

She flicked her blonde hair extensions and wiped the tears from her fake eyelashes as she revealed the great life lesson she has learned:

"Expensive shoes don't make you happy, they really don't.

"Most of these WAGs used to have nothing and now have their expensive bags, tans and outfits. But those things don't mean a thing when your boyfriend's CHEATING on you.

"One day they'll wake up as a 40-year-old and think, 'I've got a whole house of Louboutins and Jimmy Choos but I'm not happy.' "

With wisdom beyond her years Chantelle added: "You can't buy happiness.

"People stand by their man through the cheating just so their lifestyle doesn't change. I wasn't prepared to do that."

The passionate fling- which included talk of marriage and kids-ended when Chantelle realised Spurs hero Jermain, 26, had not changed his roaming ways. In tears she recalled: "Four months into the relationship I knew I loved him. I wrote it in his Valentine's card-but he never said it back. We split up two weeks later."

The breaking point came when she picked up Jermain's mobile phone and saw a picture of another girl.

"I got really upset and packed my bags," she said. "One of the last things I said to him was, 'Hopefully one day you'll realise I was just with you for YOU. I wasn't after you for anything else.' "

And Chantelle-the fake celeb who won hearts by actually winning Celebrity Big Brother then falling in love and marrying Ordinary Boys housemate Preston-attacked the WAG culture of pretty young girls throw themselves at footballers, even if they're famously already in a relationship.

Chantelle raged: "Those girls will drop their knickers for anything-they'd be round Jermain's house within an hour. They know he could change their lives from shopgirl to Chanel girl. And we all know what footballers are driven by a lot of the time."

Right from the start heartbroken Chantelle was always aware of Jermain's past. He's dated a string of glamour girls including Danielle Lloyd, Joanna Beckham, Sarah Giggle and onetime fiancée Charlotte Mears. And Danielle famously claimed that Jermain had THREE-TIMED her.

But Chantelle admitted: "I think I look for people with bad backgrounds because I want a man to be a man-and I want to be looked after.

"I said to Jermain early on, 'I know you've got a reputation.' But he said he was committed to being faithful and took me to see his mum."

The couple instantly hit it off after meeting at London club Maya in October. But Chantelle refused even to kiss Jermain for THREE WEEKS to prove she wasn't up for a one-night stand.

She told us: "Within two days he'd got my number from a friend and we started texting. He asked me to go to the movies and that was our first date. For weeks all he'd do was hold my hand. It was so slow. He liked me, so he didn't try to rush it."

And she wasn't disappointed when they eventually took the plunge.

"Jermain's very confident in bed and, with his body, I suppose he's got every right to be really," giggled Chantelle.

Food

"It was a satisfying sexual relationship. I look back on it with fond memories, put it that way."

Jermain told 33DD Chantelle he considered they were officially an item five weeks into their relationship. Soon the Essex girl was staying at his £3 million Hertfordshire mansion. "We were together every single day," she said.

But life wasn't all terrific sex and new shoes. "Jermain's one million per cent dedicated to his football," revealed Chantelle. "He lives and breathes it. He's always watching it on telly. But I didn't mind because I'd be happy just to be with him."

And Chantelle was convinced she saw Defoe's caring side. "He didn't make me shut up during games either," she added. "We'd talk, too."

Chantelle had soon developed the routine of a normal WAG. She said: "Jermain would train every morning then we'd go shopping, go for food or watch DVDs.

"We'd always go out for dinner. Although to be honest we were quite happy to spend time at home and cook, sitting on the sofa watching TV." However it wasn't long before Jermain was sheepishly off partying-without Chantelle.

"He was always nervous about telling me he was going out," she said. "I'd say, 'Why you acting so cagey about it? Go out, have a good time.' He'd be like, 'I can't believe this. Every other girl has moaned at me for going out.'

Lavish

"I used to mess about and say to him, 'Are you texting your girlfriend?' He'd always say, 'Well, you're my girlfriend and I'm not texting you am I?' That was his way of reassuring me. But I think I was very, reasonable, given his reputation."

Chantelle was also determined to prove she wasn't with Jermain for his £60,000-a-week salary. "I wanted to make a massive point that I was with him because I LIKED him, not because I wanted new shoes," she said. "We even discussed getting married and how many kids we wanted. I only want two, he wants six."

Nevertheless Jermain DID splash out. "At Christmas he spent £10,000," said Chantelle. "He bought me Louboutins, a really nice diamond necklace and an amazing designer dress."

But the first cracks in the relationship appeared when Jermain injured his foot in training in January, just as Chantelle realised she was falling in love. Weepily she recalled: "It all went sh** from there because the injury got to be too much.

"He was on crutches and I was there with him all the time. I did look after him. But I'd see his frustration and feel on edge."

While recovering, Jermain paid for a lavish Valentine's holiday to Dubai. Breaking down, Chantelle sobbed: "It was so nice there. It reminded me of Preston (her ex, not the place)-we could just hang out in our hotel room and be like two little kids having a laugh together."

But when they returned home Chantelle discovered the telltale phone picture and eventually walked out.

She said: "I'll never trust anyone 100 per cent now. After a break I sent Jermain a text saying, 'I completely understand you now. You really want to be the faithful boyfriend. But you can't be that person. . ."

Again Jermain displayed his caring nature, replying: "Thanks, I'm glad you understand me."

Sadly Chantelle insisted: "That's why I don't hate him. But I DID hate being a WAG."
