American Idol goes country with two alums picking up nominations for the CMAs. It seems anymore that it's just not a country music award show with Carrie Underwood racking up some nominations. The nominations were announced on Wednesday for the 42nd Annual Country Music Awards and both Carrie and Kellie Pickler were on the list.
Former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood picked up two nominations -- Best Female Vocalist and Album of the Year. Fellow Idol alum Kellie Pickler also grabbed a nomination, for Best New Artist
The Associated Press notes that on the male performer side Kenny Chesney was nominated for male vocalist of the year and is also nominated for entertainer of the year. Other nominees include Taylor Swift and Rascal Flatts.
CMT notes that Jennifer Nettles, the lead singer of Sugarland, is up for song (for writing “Stay”), as well as single, vocal duo, music video, musical event and the impressive entertainer of the year category.
